Private label from China: how to create products under your own brand

Private label turns a product into your product: your brand, your packaging, made by a factory for you. Here is how it works when the factory is in China.

Updated 10 October 2026 · Dropfit

In short

Private label means a factory makes a product for you and you sell it under your own brand. With a factory in China you choose the product, the customisation (logo, colours, materials, packaging) and the quantities, and the factory produces it for your store. Dropfit does private label: send the product and what you want to change, and you get a quote with price, production time and shipping costs.

Which EU rules apply to a private label product?

When a product carries your brand, you take on the responsibilities of the brand that places it on the market. For most consumer products sold in the EU, the name and contact details of an economic operator established in the EU must appear on the product, its packaging, the parcel or an accompanying document (Regulation (EU) 2023/988, Art. 16).

Some categories have stricter rules: cosmetics need a responsible person in the EU, a safety report and notification before sale (Regulation (EC) 1223/2009), and food supplements must be notified to the national authority, in Italy the Ministry of Health.

Frequently asked questions

What is private label?

A product made by a manufacturer for your brand and sold under your name, with your logo, packaging and specifications.

Private label or white label: which is better for a new brand?

White label is faster because the product is ready-made. Private label takes more work but gives you a product competitors can't simply buy and resell.

Does Dropfit do private label?

Yes. Send us the product and the customisation you need, and the quote shows price, production time and shipping costs.

Who is responsible for a private label product in the EU?

The brand that places it on the market. For most consumer products an economic operator established in the EU must be named on the product, its packaging, the parcel or an accompanying document.
